Izsys Archer

Bio

Archer’s use of a self-portraiture embarks on a journey of self-possession and understanding that emphasizes Black womanhood. Often in domestic interior spaces, Archer uses methods of photographic image-making to create space for herself and other Black women as an inherently political subject. Acknowledging the oppression and targeting of the Black female and male being, the works engage in a reclamation of the body and a releasing into freedom to exist in coveted otherworldly space.
